The students have been doing an amazing job in their writing! We are focusing on some different things as we write.
We have independent writing time during our Daily 5 reading time in the morning. The children have been doing informative writing. They are writing about a specific, factual topic. We are learning to use evidence found in text to support our writing. Students have also learned about the conventions of writing. Each sentence begins with a capital letter. The rest of the letters are lowercase, unless it is a proper noun. Every sentence ends with punctuation. The periods, question marks, and exclamation points let the reader know our sentence is all done. We put finger spaces between our words and use our best sound spelling. In the afternoon, we have our writer's workshop time. We are working on personal narratives. The children are taking things that have happened in their lives and are writing about them. We are learning to add details to make our writing more interesting, as well as helping the reader understand the experience. I have noticed huge gains in the children's writing. I hope you have, too! Hello families,

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
