Yesterday was our field trip to the Pine Tree Apple Orchard! We learned about the process of apple growing. The children saw apples on the trees, went inside an apple barn, saw a presentation on apples, watched the bakers making apple treats, and saw apples go through a sorting machine. Here are some pictures of our day! Here is a link for Sight Word Practice at home. The sight has the words broken into groups, so everyone can use the appropriate words to fit their needs. I hope this link is helpful!
http://rbeaudoin333.homestead.com/sightvocab_1.html#anchor_376 Our WIN Time focus for the next two weeks is Narrative Writing. We are starting by learning about the beginning, middle, and end of stories and how it relates to our writing. We are using classic fairy tales and then will move onto personal experiences. Some students will be focusing on writing topic and concluding sentences, others will focus on time order words, and some others will work on paragraph structure. It will be different so all students will learn "What I Need."
2012 WOODLAND SILENT AUCTION during Turkey Bingo Night Friday, November 16th 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Woodland is hosting our annual Bingo and Silent Auction Night. Every year classrooms put together baskets to auction off to raise money for the PTO. The money raised goes to support our children and their education at Woodland. The PTO supports technology, music, art, reading, DARE, and many other programs at WD! Our classroom has chosen a theme for our basket and we are very excited to work together to have fun and raise funds for Woodland. We are asking each child to bring a new item that reflects our chosen theme or donate money to purchase items. Donations will be collected in our classroom from Monday, October 29th through Thursday, November 15th. Please send your item and one dollar to help purchase a basket or container for our theme. If the container is donated, we will use the money to purchase ‘final touches’ for the basket. Please notify us if you are able to donate this container. The theme for our room is: Games If you are able to donate any additional items for the auction, it would be greatly appreciated. All items must be new. You could donate tickets for sports or theaters, gift certificates for movie theaters, stores, or entertainment venues, craft items, or any other items. These donations can become part of a larger basket, added to another class or a basket of their own. Feel free to create your own basket for the auction! Perhaps your employer would donate a basket? Thank you for your participation and your support! Questions? Contact Denise Neukircher Email: [email protected] or call 763-229-4150 ****************************************************************************** Please return this portion of this sheet with your child if you would like to be more involved. ____ I am interested in helping with the auction by assembling baskets, volunteering to set up, monitor or help run the event ____ I am interested in providing the container (“basket”) for the classroom. Yesterday, we celebrated Unity Day with the entire Woodland community! It was fun to see everyone proudly wearing their orange. The class created their own acrostic poem with the word UNITED. We discussed what it meant to be united and how to stand together in our learning and friendships. The afternoon brought us outside and to the letter D. We stood and waved as an airplane flew over us and the entire school and took our picture. The day ended with two 6th graders leading us in some team building activities.
Next week conferences begin! We will go over some initial assessments and then work together to make goals for your child. Please bring your child to the conference with you. We will be able to discuss and plan as a team. Each conference lasts 20 minutes, so please arrive on time. My schedule is pretty full and I want to respect everyone's time. If you can't make it at our scheduled time, please call or email me and we will set up another time. I look forward to seeing everyone again!
We have begun WIN Time! WIN stands for: What I Need. We use our WIN Time to re-teach and re-learn what we do not yet know, as well as enrich and go further in our learning. Most students currently have a math focus, but some students are working on reading. We will constantly monitor and adjust the subject areas based on "What I Need!"

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
