We are working on blending letter sounds!
In phonics, the students are learning about the different sounds each letter makes. We can put the letters together, say their sounds, and make a word. So far we have focused on the letters m, a, s, t, n, and i. We learned that a and i are vowels. Vowels are often in the middle of the word. They are like the glue that holds the word together. Vowels also have two sounds, a short sound and a long sound (it says it's name)! Our focus is on the short vowel sound, but it is important to remember that each vowel has another sound. The students love putting the letters together to read and write. Some of the words we can make are:

We are learning about analyzing characters!
In order to find out what a character in a book is like, we visualize. Visualization is making a mental image in our mind. When we are able to have a mental picture, we are able to better understand characters in stories. Another strategy we use is to think FAST! FAST stands for Feelings, Actions, Sayings/Words, and Thoughts. By looking at a characters feelings, actions, words and thoughts, we can identify traits. You can practice analyzing characters at home as you read with your child over the next few weeks! |
Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
