What a year! We have learned so much. As we finish this school year, I always like to look back and reflect on all we have accomplished. The students did an amazing job of learning their addition and subtraction facts in math. They have mastered 3-digit addition and subtraction, learned to multiply, and worked on counting money. In reading, the students have improved their fluency and accuracy. We learned about genres, author's purpose, how to summarize using beginning, middle, and end, other comprehension strategies, and word study. We also learned about health, science, social studies, and art. Take time to celebrate all your child has done this year! They are amazing!

Wacky Hair Day
Wednesday, May 29th Show your inner wackiness by doing your do. All hair color, hair sprays, distracting accessories, etc. must be left at home. This does not mean you cannot use them in your hair, merely, that the hair products cannot be brought to school (it must already be in your hair). Week of May 27-31, 2013
We are down to our last two weeks of 2nd Grade! The students have learned so much this year! We will still be learning and assessing during these final weeks. We have many fun activities to help us in our learning. Be sure to check your child's planner each day. Some of our homework may be different, but there will be homework every night. The students know that we will be learning and working every day they are here. We will also be reflecting on our Hopes and Dreams. We created these in September, and it is amazing to see how they have come true.
Enjoy your long holiday weekend! WANTED:

Family Literacy Website As part of the Local Literacy Plan, our district is committed to sharing resources with families about how to support literacy development at home. Our new Family Literacy Website is linked to the district website and is accessible to anyone. We welcome you to share the link with your families: https://sites.google.com/a/apps.district279.org/279familyliteracy/ Yesterday, the students took their Reading MAP assessment test. It was a long test, but overall, the students did a nice job of focusing and reading each question. We will take our Math MAP on Thursday. It is important that everyone has a good night's rest on Wednesday, and a healthy breakfast on Thursday morning. We are emphasizing the importance of taking our time on each question. Students know they should read every answer carefully and look back at the question. This is an important test for us. It shows our growth over the past year. Many of the students have made or exceeded their target growth in Reading. I hope and trust that Thursday will show growth, too!
We are finishing up Math unit 11. The unit focuses on 3-digit addition and subtraction. The students have been working hard not only on solving these problems, but being able to explain the mathematical process of making and ungrouping tens, hundreds, and thousands. Thanks for all the work you are doing at home! Continue to question your child and help him or her explain their math thinking. We also will be assessing coin amounts which we practiced at the beginning of unit 11. Go Mathematicians!
Just a reminder, our 2nd grade musical is this week! Our dress rehearsal is tomorrow morning at 10:15. Our performances are Thursday at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Please have your child wear his or her red tie-dye shirt. They need to be at school between 6:00-6:15. You may go find a seat and your child will walk to our classroom. They have been practicing very hard. I'm looking forward to seeing you all!

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
