Next Wednesday, December 5, your child's report card will be sent home. The students have worked to learn many different concepts in all subject areas. Some state standards have been mastered. Other standards will take more time to learn. Still others will not be marked this trimester since we have not yet studied the topic. Take the time to go over your child's report card to see what successes your child has had, and what they still need to learn. This is a year-long process. Not all standards and social skills will be perfected yet. That is just fine. We will continue to learn and grow throughout the school year!

We have a short math unit all about Shapes! We reviewed the properties of squares, rectangles, and triangles. Today we looked at parallel lines and parallelograms. Tomorrow we focus on how different quadrilaterals relate to one another. And on Thursday, we take our assessment!
square: it has four square corners and four sides of equal length rectangle: it has four square corners adn opposite sides of equal length parallelogram: it has two pairs of parallel sides quadrilateral: it has four sides Some shapes have more than one name! A parallelogram is also a quadrilateral. A rectangle is a parallelogram and a quadrilateral. And a square is a rectangle, parallelogram, and a quadrilateral! We do not have school on Thursday or Friday, November 22-23. I hope everyone has a safe and fun weekend! Enjoy your friends, families, and delicious food!
We have been learning about tints and shades in art class this week. We started with a color, then added some white to make it a lighter tint. We also added black to the original color to make a darker shade. Students used the colors to paint a piece of paper. Tomorrow we will use the painted paper to create a special Thanksgiving decoration! Ask your child about it!
Tonight is Turkey Bingo and our Silent Auction fundraiser! If you are able, stop by for some Bingo fun, food, and bid on a basket. Our class had enough game donations for 2 mid-size baskets! All the money goes to Woodland. Hope to see you there!
Our math unit is all about story problems. We are learning about the 4-Step Problem Solving Process:
Happy problem solving! Yes, it is finally Election Day! We celebrated our democracy by participating in a school-wide vote. Each child voted on the computer and the school results were compiled and reported. In addition to our school-wide vote, we had our own classroom election. Students registered, signed in, and voted. The ballots were counted. We classified and graphed our data. We then analyzed the data. We discussed the results and learned about the election process. The students were excited to participate in our own Election Day!
We just finished our Science unit on Classification! Students were able to classify and then show their data on a graph. Here are the vocabulary words we learned:
Next week, we begin our word study groups. The students know the routines and different types of sorts. Children will receive a list based on what they need to learn about words, patterns, and sounds. It will truly be a study of words at their level. I will be meeting with the different groups of students on Monday for the initial sort and work with the groups throughout the week. We will readjust as needed. Continue to practice the sorts at home. Together we can make our word study a success!

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
