We began a new reading unit this week. Our focus is analyzing story elements and summarizing and synthesizing to understand a story. The four story elements we are analyzing are characters, setting, problem, and solution. The characters are the people, animals, or things in a story. The setting is when and where to story takes place. The problem is what causes problems for the characters. This is found in the middle part of the story. The solution is how the problem is solved at the end of the story. We summarize when we retell the story in our own words. We also synthesize information while we read, or identify how our thinking changes and grows. Enjoy analyzing stories at home with your child! |
Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
