The end of the year is almost here! With only two weeks of school left, we have many fun activities planned. Be sure to make note of the dress-up days next week. We also have a visit from the MN Twins, a family after-school Ice Cream Social and Book Fair, and our Eagle Celebration. We are still working on our final kindergarten standards and assessments. Let's make this a great last two weeks!
I can't believe how quickly the school year has gone! We are finally in the month of May and our Kindergarten year is coming to an end. Our last four weeks of Kindergarten will be filled with learning, as well as opportunities to show what we have learned. I will be doing my final assessments with the children. I am so proud of the progress everyone has made this year! You are doing a great job at home! Keep it up these last few weeks.
With the spring and end of the year excitement, we also need to take time to review our class rules and Woodland expectations. Please talk to your child about the rules and expectations. We are having a few more issues with keeping our hands to ourselves, bodies in control, and speaking with kindness and respect. Thank you for all you do! This year has truly been a partnership. Your child is succeeding because of this partnership! · Be The Change Week - The week of May 18th-22nd the Spirit & Service Team will be sponsoring a fundraiser for a school in Sumpango, Guatemala. The school serves grades 1-6 (most Guatemalans do not attend preschool or kindergarten). There are about 700 kids who attend the school. The children only attend school for about 4 hours a day and it is often cancelled due to teacher strikes, holidays, etc., so they do not have a lot of time in school to learn. The school has two small plastic bins full of books available for the students to read with maybe 40 books at most. Woodland’s own sixth grade teacher, Miss Peters, spends her summers teaching at this school and recognized last summer the lack of books. There will be a collection container for students and staff to bring their pennies and change to collect. The money raised will be used by Miss Peters to purchase Spanish children’s books so the children have books to read and enjoy in their language. Students and staff will be invited to bring loose change found in sofa cushions as this is intended to be a short, simple campaign to address a need in the world that every person can contribute to. More information will be shared by Miss Peters and the Spirit & Service Team next week.
· Woodland School Spirit Week – Running out of ideas of what to wear to school? Don’t worry, the Spirit & Service Team has got you covered for the last week in May. Please check out the May SOAR calendar for themes for each of the four days (no school on Monday that week) the end the month of May. · Pop Your Top – It’s it people! After two years of collecting and donating pop tabs for the children and their families being cared for through Ronald McDonald Charities, we are almost to our goal of collecting 500 lbs. of pop tabs. Please let your students know that this is the final month of collecting pop tabs. It is a hope that this has been a habit for all Woodland families to continue on their own, as it is a win-win for raising money for a great cause and recycling. The grade level who has collected the most pop tabs will win a dance party the final week of school! Thank you to all of you for helping to continue this service project over the past two years. |
Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
