We have been learning during our daily phonics time! Each week we will focus on one new letter. The children will focus on the sound and formation of the letter. We will practice writing the uppercase and lowercase form of each letter.
The really exciting part is we can already make words out of the letters! When we put a and m together, we form the word am. If we add an S to the beginning, we make the name Sam. As we learn the letters we will post them in the room. We will add words we can make and pictures of words that begin with that letter. This is another resource to help us do our best learning! We are beginning to learn about different strategies to help with our reading! We call them CAFE! This is what it stands for:
So far, we have learned about being a Voracious Reader (E), Check for Understanding (C), and Cross-Checking (A). As we continue to learn new strategies, we will use them like a menu at a real CAFE. Students will pick a focus area and use different strategies within that area to build their Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand their Vocabulary. These different strategies will help us become the best readers we can be! Next week will be our sixth week of kindergarten. We have been busy during our first six weeks of school. The class is building a community of learners. We have made Hopes and Dreams for the year. Out of our Hopes and Dreams came the rules in our class constitution. We are learning how to SOAR as Woodland eagles. SOAR stands for Safety, Own your actions, Act with leadership, and be Resourceful.
We are learning our academic routines in reading and math. During reading, we have our Daily 5 activities. So far, we have learned about Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Read to Someone. In math, we are learning about math tools and centers. We will be reflecting during this sixth week of school on all our accomplishments. As we head forward, our academics and learning will increase. Because we are building a safe and caring community, all our Hopes and Dreams for this school year will be realized! |
Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
