It's hard to believe, but May is here! We have 27 more days of kindergarten. During our last few weeks together, we will celebrate all our learning, and continue to expand our minds. We still have things to learn and accomplish. Each day together is precious and we will make each day count. We are still a learning community, and we will work together to transition from kindergarten to 1st grade!

It is with heavy heart that I'm writing today. Our loss of Mr. Gregor is felt throughout the entire Woodland community. Many of you may not have known Mr. Gregor, but he knew your children. He was with them during recess, lunch, and in the classroom. He loved working and playing with the children. He knew their names and interests. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help support your child. Mrs. Saba and I told the students yesterday to talk to you with their concerns and questions. I also let them know that they can come to me anytime to talk. Grief is a process that we will work through together and I am committed to help your child through this time. Memorial Service Information:
Woodland Elementary School on Wednesday, April 20th. 5:30 - 7:00PM Visitation in the Woodland Gymnasium 7:00PM Memorial Service in the Woodland Gymnasium Refreshments will be served in the Woodland Cafeteria immediately following the service Thank you for supporting your children and the Woodland family as we work through this difficult time. We are in the middle of a three week reading unit. The unit focus is compare and contrast. We have learned that compare means to identify what is the same and contrast means to identify what is different. We are using Venn diagrams to record our learning. In order to identify things, we are learning how to determine text importance, or what are some key words the signal similarities and differences. These key words help us compare and contrast. There are many ways to compare and contrast when reading. We have done so with one book, or several books. Here are some of the ways we have done so in class:
Comparing and Contrasting is something we do in our everyday lives. We are taking this strategy and using it across all curricular content areas, as well as in our everyday routines. What can you compare & contrast at home?

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
