We have begun our first reading unit! The comprehension strategy is identifying main idea and details. Our cognitive strategy is asking questions as we read.
The students have been hearing stories. As I read, I share my thoughts aloud. My focus is on asking questions to help me identify the main idea and details within the story. The students practice asking questions aloud with me. Then we practice identifying the details we hear in the book. We put all the details together to identify what the book is mostly about. This is the main idea. We are also looking at posters and books during our whole group reading lesson. We spend 10-15 minutes looking at pictures and text. We ask questions, notice details, and state the main idea. Below are the pictures of our "I Can" statements and anchor chart. We also will use graphic organizers to help show what we know. I encourage you to ask questions and identify the main idea and details as you read with your child at home! Woodland wear is here! Click on the link below to order:
Online ordering ends on October 25, 2019. School Code: WESW19 We have a class constitution!
We worked together and brainstormed a list of rules we thought our class needed. Next, we grouped like rules together by circling them with the same color. After that, the class thought of one sentence that would encompass the rules with the same color. Then, we had our rules! We all signed the rules, or our class constitution to show that we agreed to follow them. The children acknowledged the rules will help us learn and grow by creating a safe classroom community. By striving to follow our rules all of our hopes and dreams for kindergarten will come true! |
Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
