We have been learning a lot in math!
Last week we focused on graphing. We read graphing books, saw different graphing examples, and even did a graphing project! The students picked three colors and asked their classmates which was their favorite. After collecting their data using tally marks, they transferred the data and created a graph. This week has been all about estimation. We had fun looking at estimation books. The children learned how to look at 10 objects and then make an educated prediction on how many total objects were in a container. It has been fun learning about graphing and estimation. We will continue to explore and play with these math concepts! I need help with recruiting!!!
Minnesota Reading Corps-the nation’s largest state AmeriCorps program-and its sister program Minnesota Math Corps are looking to place a FIVE Literacy Tutors at our school. Tutors not only change the world of kids who are struggling in school, they experience professional and personal growth. Tutors help kids become successful readers by the end of third grade or proficient in math by the end of eighth grade, by implementing research-based strategies. · I’ve included a video which review’s Reading Corps’ mission and the roles of our tutors. In addition to the information on the video, I would like to highlight a few items. Tutors do not need a college degree to serve in our program. · They just need a HS diploma and be 18 years of age. · In addition to the living stipend, tutors receive an education award ($5,645 for full-time members) to go towards college. Please forward this email to anyone you feel may be interested in this opportunity! Thank you for your time and help. We are learning how to find clues and evidence in a book, and use them to predict what will happen next. The students are doing a wonderful job reading their I Can statements. Next week, they will practice writing the evidence and their predictions in a graphic organizer. Here are two charts we are using in our classroom to help us learn this reading comprehension strategy. You can help by practicing making inferences and predictions about the books you are reading with your child at home!
We are at the end of our second trimester! The students have been working hard to learn these past three months. They have grown so much. Report cards will be sent home next Wednesday, March 11. Please remember that it is fine if your child has earned a 2. That means they still need help on certain standards. The expectation is that students earn a 3 by the end of the school year. Thank you for all you do at home with your child! I can't do this with out you and am grateful that we have such a great partnership! Celebrate all your child has learned this trimester!

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
