I want to take this time to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all the children and their families! I am so thankful for each and every one of you. Each child in our classroom is a blessing. I am so grateful for the opportunity to know you and work with you every day. Families, I am thankful for your support in our work at school. Parenting is a difficult job, and I want to thank you for the work you are doing. It is an honor to partner with you! I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to seeing you in December!
Over the last four weeks, we have been learning about life and work skills. Each skill is marked on the report card. Every week has had a different focus. Each day, the children learned a different strategy to learn about the focus skill. These are important skills for every student to develop. It will help them become life-long learners. Please reinforce these skills at home.

We started our second reading unit yesterday. The three-week unit is about analyzing characters and visualizing. The students are learning to visualize what the characters are feeling, how they are acting, what they are saying, and thinking in order to determine character traits. This is something you can do at home as you are reading with your child. Remember to think FAST (Feelings, Actions, Sayings/Words, Thoughts)! We are still in need of items for our Kindergarten Silent Auction Basket. All items are due by next Wednesday, November 11. I have put the letter that was sent home below. Thanks for your generosity! 2015 WOODLAND SILENT AUCTION
during Turkey Bingo Night Friday, November 13th 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Woodland is hosting our annual Bingo and Silent Auction Night. Every year classrooms put together baskets to auction off to raise money for the PTO. The money raised goes to support our children and their education at Woodland. The PTO supports technology, music, reading, recess supervision, math, and many other programs at WD! Our classroom has chosen a theme for our basket and we are very excited to work together to have fun and raise funds for Woodland. We are asking each child to bring a new item that reflects our chosen theme or donate money to purchase items. Donations will be collected in our classroom from Monday, November 2nd through Thursday, November 11th. Please send your item and, if possible, one dollar to help purchase a basket or container for our theme. If the container is donated, we will use the money to purchase ‘final touches’ for the basket. Please notify us if you are able to donate this container. The theme for kindergarten is: Family Fun (games, DVDs, gift cards, art and craft supplies, or anything that you would like to do with your family) If you are able to donate any additional items for the auction or for Bingo prizes, it would be greatly appreciated. All items must be new. You could donate tickets for sports or theaters, gift certificates for movie theaters, stores, or entertainment venues, craft items, or any other items. These donations can become part of a larger basket, added to another class or a basket of their own or used as a Bingo prize. Feel free to create your own basket for the auction! Perhaps your employer would donate a basket? Thank you for your participation and your support! Questions? Contact Michelle Azure Email [email protected] We NEED a lot of volunteer hours to make this event happen! Please sign up to volunteer at Turkey Bingo and Silent Auction 2015 - Please contact Michelle Azure, Email: [email protected] to sign up. We will also offer online volunteer opportunities soon. Today your child is bringing home a piece of brown tag board and the note below. Your family will get to cut out and decorate a turkey that shows thankfulness. Please work on this as a family. When you are finished, send it back to school with your child. We need them by next Wednesday, November 11 so we can have them up for Turkey Bingo. Have fun! Dear Kindergarten Families, At this time of year, we often reflect on all for which we are thankful. Please help your kindergartner with this family turkey project. Think of what your family is thankful for and decorate your turkey to reflect this. In the past, families have used crayons, feathers, dried noodles, cereal, pictures, and many other things. Be creative! An adult should cut out the turkey that is traced with pencil. Then, please work with your kindergartner to decorate it. Write your child’s first name, last name, and teacher name on the back. When you have completed the turkey, send it to school in a garbage bag. Please send the completed turkey to school by Wednesday, November 11. The turkeys will be on display in the hallways at school for all to enjoy! Thank you! The Kindergarten Teachers We have homework! On Monday, your child brought home their word bird and first set of sight words. Please read the pink direction sheet in the envelope. I have posted our word bird words/sight words under the more tab in this blog. Please go there to check for directions and our weekly words. Please date and initial the envelope only one time per week so we can conserve paper. Thanks!

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
