In order to find out what a character in a book is like, we visualize. Visualization is making a mental image in our mind. When we are able to have a mental picture, we are able to better understand characters in stories.
Another strategy we use is to think FAST! FAST stands for Feelings, Actions, Sayings/Words, and Thoughts. By looking at a characters feelings, actions, words and thoughts, we can identify traits.
You can practice analyzing characters at home as you read with your child over the next few weeks!
