In phonics, the students are learning about the different sounds each letter makes. We can put the letters together, say their sounds, and make a word. So far we have focused on the letters m, a, s, t, n, and i. We learned that a and i are vowels. Vowels are often in the middle of the word. They are like the glue that holds the word together. Vowels also have two sounds, a short sound and a long sound (it says it's name)! Our focus is on the short vowel sound, but it is important to remember that each vowel has another sound.
The students love putting the letters together to read and write. Some of the words we can make are:
- am, Sam, tam
- at, mat, sat
- an, tan, man
- in, tin, sin
- it, sit
- is
- Tim
Have fun blending words at home!
