Our seventh reading unit is all about making predictions! We have been learning how making predictions helps us comprehend what we read. We begin by looking at the title and illustration on the cover. We can take the text and picture clues to make a good guess about what the book will be about. As we are reading the story, we stop to predict what will happen next. At the end of the book, we confirm our predictions. Were we correct? If we were, that is great. If not, we adjust and state what did happen. It is fine if our predictions were incorrect. Good readers use the clues given and prior knowledge to make good guesses. They adjust their thinking as they read to comprehend the text. Ask your child about making predictions!

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
