We began a new reading unit this week. We are learning how to summarize! This may seem easy, but it is challenging to find the big idea and put it into our own words. When we read text, we think about the importance of each detail. We are learning how to answer these questions: What are the details telling us? How can I say the main idea and retell the story or information? We are also fixing up and monitoring while we read. Sometimes we make a mistake, so we need to learn how to go back and fix that mistake. Good readers are always monitoring. We think about the letter sounds/words, pictures, and if we understand what we are reading. These strategies help us become better readers! |

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
