We have begun WIN Time! WIN stands for What I Need. All the 2nd grade teachers looked at our assessment data to determine what the scholars need to work on for the next three weeks. There is one math intervention group for scholars who still need to develop number sense (based on our unit one math test--all about equations, totals, partners). The rest of the groups have a reading focus. Some of the scholars show a need to work on reading fluency. We have three groups working on fluency. Another three groups are working on reading comprehension. The focus is on retelling a story. The final three groups are also working on reading comprehension, but using Jr. Great Books. These groups are focusing on higher level thinking skills and are providing enrichment for our scholars who are already meeting standards. After the three weeks are finished, we will look at more data and adjust the groups as needed. Some scholars may continue in the same group and others may switch groups. We will be changing the instruction in groups, too. Ask your child about their WIN Time group. They may have a different teacher or leave our classroom. We are excited to begin!

Ms. BedfordI have been teaching for 22 years. When not at school, I enjoy traveling, knitting, and getting together with family and friends. My cat Gilmore brings me laughter with her silly antics. It is a joy to watch children learn and grow during the school year! Archives
